In 28 short stories Khaled Zohni describes the state of affairs in Egypt before and during the 25 January Egyptian revolution which forced Hosni Mubarak to resign from office after 30 years of ruling Egypt. The four-chapter book starts with a diary written by Abo Nasr, a 1973 war veteran who owns a small shop in the Tahrir Square, which was the hub of the revolution, together with his colleague Boulos. The events of the first chapter unfold as Abo Nasr narrates to his son Nasr, on a daily basis, the events that he witnesses taking place the Square. In the same chapter, the author describes the dilemma an anti-riot forces soldier goes through when he is given commands to open fire on his own people. In the second chapter the author goes back to the time before the revolution to describe in 4 stories the quest for freedom and justice undertaken by some Egyptians, while allegorically reflecting on issues pertaining to sectarian strife. In the third chapter the author describes in 8 stories how Egyptians had suffered for 30 years under the strain of police brutality, state of emergency laws, lack of free elections and freedom of speech, corruption, and economic issues including high unemployment, food price inflation, and low minimum wages. Finally, in the last chapter, he describes in 11 stories how Egyptians will go about realizing their dream for a new and modern Egypt. In his last story, he writes a true story of a Libyan physician who was trapped in the anti-Gaddafi war and the horror he and his family went through.” Description by Jaidaa Gawad Hamada”
